Apple Seeds Mobile Kitchen

fayetteville, arkansas

Apple Seeds is a Fayetteville, Arkansas, non-profit focused on school garden education, increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables, improving attitudes towards healthy food, and heightening student knowledge of nutrition and gardening. The organization asked modus shop to design and fabricate a mobile test kitchen for use in their school garden education program.

The series of kitchen carts are fabricated using a structure of stainless steel tube and finished with stainless steel sheet metal top and sides clad in reclaimed oak barn wood. A live-edge slab of maple finished with food safe oil spans between the two carts and serves as a cutting board. The bottom of the cutting board is slotted to receive the solid stainless steel round bar handles, connecting the two carts together, and sitting flush with the steel countertop. The built-in stainless steel sink uses custom fresh water and gray water tanks below the counter. The carts are mobilized using a simple series of light-duty, solid polyurethane wheels.
