The Construction Specialist will work under the supervision of the project architect/manager and principal-in-charge to review design documentation, facilitate research and detailing conversation with architects and designers, and directly engage with construction teams to ensure projects are built and perform properly.
Major Responsibilities Include:
■ Assisting architects and designers with the creation of adequate specifications.
■ Facilitating project detailing focusing on the exceptional performance of building envelopes.
■ Supporting project managers and architects working on active construction projects to produce field reports and to observe overall construction for conformance to the contract documents.
■ Documenting construction status using traditional and drone photography/videography.
■ Aiding in punch lists on construction projects and increasing overall quality control.
■ Communicating and coordinating closely with the entire team (owner/architect/contractor) during active construction projects.
■ Establishing which elements on projects are to be fabricated and installed by modus shop, and facilitating their production with modus shop fabricators within the studio, shop, and field.
■ Occasionally creating shop drawings for various scale fabrication projects that modus shop engages.
■ Establishing project estimates, coordinating subcontractors, and general project management and site superintendent responsibilities for small-scale construction projects that are internally developed.
■ Other detailing, documentation, fabrication, and construction oversight duties as assigned.
■ Post-secondary education in construction management or related field and three years of applicable work experience in the architectural and/or construction management disciplines.
■ Excellent computer skills, including project management software/trackers, presentation building in Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam, or similar programs, calendar management, and general data entry/management tools. Autodesk Revit experience preferred.
■ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
■ Strong interpersonal skills needed to facilitate positive and professional interaction with all clients, contractors, and designers.
■ Must enjoy working in a collaborative, inclusive, and design-focused environment.
■ Ideal candidates will have a deep interest in material research, can combine creative thinking with an eye for craft in making, and be driven to elevate the human experience in the built environment.
